Joshua Tree

| Joshua Tree is located in Southeastern California between the Mojave and Colorado Deserts. It was declared a national park in 1994 and has been a U.S National Monument since 1936. The entire park covers a land area of over 790,000 acres (Slightly larger than Rhode Island). The camp is full of unique wild life, scenic hiking trails, and beautiful campgrounds. it is a must-see if you find yourself in the southeastern region of California. |
Slab City

Slab City (also known as the last free city) is a campsite in the Colorado Desert in southeastern California, used by recreation vehicle owners and squatters from across North America. It takes its name from the concrete slabs that remain from the abandoned World War II Marine Barracks of Camp Dunlap.
The population consists of several thousand campers many of them retired, use the site during the winter months. These "snowbirds" stay only for the winter mirgrating north in the spring to cooler climates. (The unforgiving temperatures in the summer range from 105-120 degrees F)
The site is both decommissined and uncontrolled, the camp has no electricity, no running water, no sewers or toilets. Many campers use generators or solar panels to generate electricity. This kind of rural living attracts a very interesting dynamic of people, from artists, musicians, to vagabond travelers.

The Saltan Sea.

| The Salton Sea stretches 45 miles long and 25 miles wide, making it the largest lake in California. Located around -227 below sea level Salton Sea was re-created in 1905 when high spring flooding on the Colorado River crashed the canal gates leading into the developing Imperial Valley. For the next 18 months the entire volume of the Colorado River rushed downward into the Salton Trough. By the time engineers were finally able to stop the breaching water in 1907, the Salton Sea had been born. |
One of the attractions of the Sea is the abundance of life, manifested in the hundreds of species of birds that reside in, or visit, this important wetland habitat, and the fish that inhabit the waters. That is why some scientists have called the Salton Sea "California's crown jewel of avian biodiversity" and perhaps was the most productive fishery in the world.

| Salvation Mountain |

Salvation Mountain is an art installation covering a hill north of Calipatria, California, near Slab City and just several miles from the Salton Sea. It is made from adobe, straw, and thousands of gallons of paint. It was created by local resident Leonard Knight, and encompasses numerous murals and areas painted with Christian sayings and Bible verse.
